What a marla actually means in Bahawalpur
Two standards, one word
A marla is not a fixed area everywhere in Punjab. Two standards are in daily use:
- 225 square feet - the urban standard, used across most developed societies in Bahawalpur including DHA and the Model Town blocks.
- 272.25 square feet - the older standard, still normal for agricultural land and some older revenue records.
The gap is about 21 percent. On a 10 marla plot that is roughly 470 square feet, which is a room.
Why it matters to your price comparison
When you compare a per-marla rate between two listings, you are only comparing like with like if both use the same standard. A plot quoted at a slightly lower rate on the old standard can be the more expensive plot per square foot.
Ask for the dimensions in feet. A plot is sold on its frontage and depth, and those numbers are on the file. Multiply them yourself.
What this site does
Every listing here records the area in the unit the owner uses, and converts it to square feet behind the scenes so the size filter compares plots fairly. Where a listing is on the older standard we say so in the description.
